About
2003
Fire and water damage occurred due to arson, throughout the center sections of the 87,000 square foot school facility causing extensive damage to the existing school and headstart program spaces. Six classrooms, along with the main office area, restrooms and other support spaces were completely reconstructed, including providing new finishes, electrical, and heating systems. The reconstruction work also consisted of structural and insulation upgrades to improve the overall performance of the building.
The multi-purpose room was converted from an auditorium to provide greater usability and flexibility to support school programs. Steger Hall was designed to accommodate performances and flex space with seating for over 400 people. Designed with a raised platform at one end, this space can also be subdivided into three separate classrooms with motorized operable partitions. Two translucent skylights flood the hall with natural light and are equipped with motorized shading devices to block outside light as needed for performances. Stage curtains, theatre lighting and rigging, acoustical treatments, projections screen, and sound systems all make the space accommodating for performances and community gatherings.
