Industrial buildings span over a wide range of definitions. Metal buildings and tilt wall concrete are historically the most common. Given the nature of the functions, these construction systems were economical and appropriate. The traditional concepts of metal and tilt concrete buildings have evolved to the high levels of aesthetics.
Although not as common, framed construction building technology can accommodate industrial functions. The exterior finishes vary to create specialized character. This approach is associated with industrial type within larger developments, or more urban contexts.
Newer approaches to industrial functions include more mixed-use components and industrial condominium developments.
